Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) and Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) combined, have managed to reach the handling of 4.1 million TEUs in 2017, 4.9 million TEUs in 2018 and 5,65 million TEUs in 2019. Providing rail services to the Port creates enormous opportunities both for the Port as well as for the Rail Industry.
The major opportunity in the cargo service is created by the completion of the Ikonio line that connects the national rail network to the port of Pireus. Rail service became available in 2014 thus enabling the Port of Piraeus to serve remote hinterland destinations i.e. Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and of course the Balkans.
Each block train can:
Serve up to 80 TEUs
To a remote destination
At a competitive cost
With great lead times.
